One of our favorite Makers, AccelerateKID is leading a cosplay contest for kids at Maker Faire Detroit 2019! AccelerateKid founder Than Tran shares:
Kids grades K-12 can show-off their custom designed costumes, masks, headgear, props and amazing accessories in this year’s inaugural Maker Faire Detroit Kid Cosplay Contest. At Maker Faire Detroit, we want to celebrate young makers and the amazing creations they’ve brought to life. This means no purchased or pre-fabbed items (props should be minimum 75% original work). Participants must be the primary maker of the prop (possible team effort), and you must be able to carry it by hand.
This event will take place as part of Maker Faire Detroit on Sunday, July 28 at 1PM-2PM in the Drive In Theater inside Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. Kids will showcase their design to an appreciative audience and community of professional makers that will vote for the best designed costume and props. There will be 3 categories including Best Costume, Best Original Idea and People’s Choice. The winners of each category will walk away with some cool swag from AccelerateKID.
Please note: no realistic guns (must have orange tip at a minimum), no live edge blades, and no real weapons are allowed. This would be an automatic disqualification.
To enter, participants create a project to showcase their costume and prop on AccelerateKID’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Once it’s posted, our fabulous judges would love to see any documentation of the build. Deadline to apply is July 15, 2019.
The top 20 entrants will be invited to demonstrate their costume and props and be interviewed in the Drive In Theater inside Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, at Maker Faire Detroit on Sunday, July 28th at 1:00 PM
