Farmers are some of the worlds first makers. We love to celebrate their knowledge, passion and skills at Maker Faire Detroit. This year we are excited to feature Farmer Melvin Parson and the We the People Growers Association from Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Founded in 2015 by Farmer Melvin Parson, We the People Grower’s Association (WTPGA) is a sustainable farming initiative dedicated to workforce development by creating dignified, employment and training for men and women returning home from incarceration.
Our vision has grown into the desire to create a world class urban farm. As a result, we have established We the People Opportunity Center. This non-profit organization is our catalyst to use the We the People Grower’s Association to do even more good in the world. The Opportunity Center, adjacent to the farm, will offer programming and employment readiness in organic farming and related fields to local youth and returning citizens.
