While the snow is still flying in Michigan, our thoughts are beginning to turn towards summer which of course means: Maker Faire Detroit!  We may have been making some Spinal Tap references recently as we prep for our 11th annual Maker Faire Detroit at The Henry Ford.

Key Dates:

May 1 — Maker Applications launch.  We are tightening the application season this year, opening a bit later, after seeing the trend that most makers apply in May for our Faire.

May — Rolling maker acceptances throughout the month.

June 12 – Maker Applications Close

July 10 –  Final maker placements, final draft of event map, final draft of event schedule

July 19 – Site build begins

July 23 – Pre-approved, large project early setup day

July 24 – Maker Project Set-up

July 24 – Maker Mixer Thank You Party

July 25 – 26  – Maker Faire Detroit

Key themes that are emerging for 2020:

  • Making for All Abilities and Assistive Technologies – to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities legislation

  • Everyday Super Heroes –  the Museum is the midwest premiere location for Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes; what better moment to think about ‘unleashing the super hero in all of us

We’d love to know what you are dreaming up and tinkering with this winter.  In just a few short months we celebrate Maker culture together again.
